Mini guide for families with children
Health Denmark has a comprehensive public health service, including doctors, medical specialists, hospitals, health service, home care, health visitor services and paediatric dental care, and more. The Danish health service is based on the principle of equal access to all services for all citizens. The municipalities are responsible for: preventative health care programmes for children, home nursing, health visitor services, paediatric dental care and in-school health services. The municipalities issue health cards and administer citizens' choice of doctor and health insurance scheme group. The five regions are responsible for operating the hospitals and psychiatric treatment in the regions.EducationEducation in Denmark is funded by the tax system, meaning that your child’s education is paid for through taxation. However, any and all privately funded educational initiatives are not included and these consequently require the payment of any further fees direct to the relevant educational establishment. Primary and Lower Secondary Education Municipal primary and lower secondary schools in Denmark are free and there are no admission requirements. The public schooling option given to all children from 6-16 years of age is provided by these municipal primary and lower secondary schools. Danish law stipulates 10 years of obligatory schooling, beginning in August of the year in which the child turns 6 years old. 87% of all Danish children receive their schooling in the municipal primary and lower secondary schools. The municipal primary and lower secondary schools are supplemented by special schools for students with special needs, including children with mental and physical disabilities. However, children with special needs are integrated within standard schools to the greatest possible degree.
