As an international parent, you can below see how we teach your child Danish in the public school system.
As a rule, it is the public district schools that are responsible for the teaching of district children, who are eligible for basic Danish as a second language or extra Danish as a second language – this is what Vejle Municipality considers a proximity offer.
The proximity offer does not apply in the above form, for two schools in Vejle Municipality: Vejle Midtbyskole and NOVAskolen. E.g., there is the international school program at Vejle Midtbyskolen.
The basic Danish as a second language teaching takes place outside the class the child is part of - either as one-to-one teaching or in a group. Additionally the child follows the class’ regular schedule.
The extra Danish as a second language teaching takes place in the class and is taken into account in the regular teaching of the class.
If the child’s age is 14+ the teaching takes place at UngdomsCenterVejle (UCV).
A child can be taught basic Danish as a second language for up to two years. After this, the child will be taught extra Danish as a second language (if needed).
It is an individual evaluation how many hours the child will be taught Danish as a second language.
NOTE: If you choose a private school for your child, you have to check with the school what offer they have.
